BBQ Showdown 2014

Time for BBQ is swiftly returning! The 999 For Kids Summer Showdown BBQ Competition will kick off the Summer.It will be held on Saturday, June 21st, 2014. 

This year, all proceeds will benefit 999 for Kids, the Sheriff’s Department’s own charity for physically and mentally handicapped children who are the victims of child abuse, neglect, and domestic violence.

The 2nd Annual LASD Stars & Stripes Barbeque and Salsa Showdown was held Saturday, June 2, 2012.  Beautiful weather, great food, and awesome music made for a good time for everyone.  South Facility was overwhelmingly the judge’s favorite, winning the   BBQ Grand Master, Grill  Grand Master, and Salsa Grand Master awards.

This year’s event will be held from 1100-1700 hours on Saturday, June 2, 2012.

This event is open to the public and features BBQ and Salsa Booths, a Kid’s Zone, food and drink vendors, live music, race car display, games, retail vendors, LASD Department displays, and more!

Competitors from throughout Southern California will compete to show who makes the best medium, hout, or sweet salsa, who grills up the best chicken wings, and who smokes the best pork roasts, beef brisket, and port ribs.

Individuals and teams from outside the Sheriff’s Department are welcome to compete!!!!

With the purchase of a BBQ and Salsa tasting card, the publice can sample the entries and vote for their favorites for the People’s Choice Award in each category.  In addition to the food offered by the competitors, a variety of food vendors will offer everything from ice cream to barbeque.

While offering a great time to all of our guests, we will also be raising money for the following worthy non-profit organizations:

  • Special Olympics of Southern California
  • 999 for Kids - The Sheriff’s Department’s own charity for physically and mentally handicapped children who are the victims of child abuse, neglect, and domestic violence
  • Wives Behind the Badge - dedicated to providing resources and emotional support to law enforcement families, and to serving as a positive voice for law enforcement in the community.
  • LASD Motorsports - organized by Deputy Sheriff’s from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department with a passion for fast vehicles, and being involved within their communities.

There is handicap and VIP parking.  Parking is free.  No pets are allowed at the event due to health department regulations.  (Excecpt for service animals.)

This event will be held rain or shine.
