Planning is well under way for the 2014 LASD Fun in the Sun Chili Cook-Off!, schedulred for October 4, 2014, from 11:00 -4:00, at the Jack Bones Equestrian Center, in Castaic.  In addition to providing a great time for all, we will also be raising money for  Special Olympics of Southern California!

This traditional Sheriff’s Department event brings in thousands of people each year to sample and judge the chili from 30+ competing teams from the Sheriff’s Department and the local community.  Each team decorates their booth and prepares 20 gallons of chili to compete for honors in three categories:  sweet, mild, and HOT!

In addition to great food, there is great entertainment featuring live music from various local bands, Department displays ranging from horses to helicopters, an awesome kids zone with a host of games and activities, a Car Show, and a wide assortment of vendors providing food, refreshments and a variety of merchandise.  (Photo from “DigitizedChaos“)

Chili tasting cards can be purchased at the front gate for $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for a limited tasting card.  The adult chili tasting cards entitle the bearer to sample each chili entry and vote on their favorite for the “People’s Choice” award.   The cards can also be purchased in advance by emailing ALGunn@LASD.org .  Entry is free, but if you choose not to buy a chili card, we suggest a $5 donation to our charity, Special Olympics of Southern California,

Please no dogs, only service animals may be brought into the event.

There are no ATM’s at the event.

The Chili Cook-off will be held rain or shine.
